KMU Senate to make Courageous Decisions, Governor NWFP

Governor Owais  Ahmed Ghani, while appreciating the visionary approach of the management of the Khyber Medical University towards, development of this sole institution of its nature in the province, has assured every possible support to materialize its plan to achieve the goals set by op KMU on fast track basis. 

Presiding over the 3rd Meeting of the Senate of the University at its premises at Hayatabad. The Governor said, since new dimensions and changes are emerging in this profession, we have to make it constant efforts to enable this Institution to pace with the emerging needs.

Earlier, the Governor formally laid the foundation stone of construction of permanent campus of the University. Referring to various projects, as subsidiary institutions of the University, especially the Research and Development as well as Skill Development centres, the Governor said, keeping in view the importance of the institutions, special efforts are under way to get readily available buildings with in the vicinity of the Campus of the University for this purpose. Simultaneously, he added, efforts would continue for development of the Campus as well.

He also noted with appreciation that the provincial government has already released an amount of Rs.100 million while an amount of Rs.50 million is in the pipeline to help the management of the University to mee6t its accommodation requirement and expressed the hope that it would successfully tackle its needs.

Taking on another point, the Governor who is also the Chancellor of the University said, latest innovations are taking place in various disciplines of the medic al profession, and keeping in the emerging needs, we must also have a practice of taking fresh look on the academic and research dev3elopment activities.

The curriculum development, he added, carries a lot of weight age in this respect5 and the Senate of the University should have to play a leading role in this connection.

The governor said, since new medical intuitions, both in the public and private sector are e3merging in the province and in such a situation the role of the University also becomes more important to help in further improvement of quality of education and enable the graduates compete at the international level.

The Governor also desired that the Vice Chancellor should continue his efforts to explore ideas for future development of the University.

Meanw2hile, the meeting approved a vision plan suggested by6 the management of the University for its future development and discussed measures to meet accommodation requirement both on short and long term basis.

The meeting noted with appreciation that a realistic approach is underway to determine future development strategies especially with reference to academic development of the University. The meeting after having thorough discussion, approved certain statutes, relating to dealing day to day affairs of the University.

In this connection, the meeting also constituted a committee, headed by the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. Hafez ullah Khan to look into the proposal with regard to affiliation aspect. The meeting besides other was also attended by the Secretary Finance, Abdul Samad Khan, Secretary Health Suhail Altaf, as well as a representative of Federal Higher Education Commission.
