Khyber Medical University (KMU) is proud to announce that Dr. Mohammad Jawad, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at KMU, has successfully defended his PhD thesis in Public Health. His thesis, titled “Development of Adherence Tool and Digital Intervention ‘DMD1’ to Improve Adherence to Management in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Patients”, marks a significant milestone in his academic journey.
The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Saima Afaq, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Public Health & Social Sciences, KMU, and Associate Professor of Global Public Health, Department of Health Sciences, University of York, UK, with co-supervision from Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq (Vice Chancellor KMU & Dean Public Health) and Prof. Dr. Arshad Hussain (Consultant Physician in Diabetes & Endocrinology, Northwest General Hospital, Peshawar).
The defense was evaluated by a distinguished panel of experts, including Prof. Dr. Aliya Hissam, Professor of Community Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Hajo Zeeb (Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS, Department of Prevention and Evaluation, Bremen, Germany) as external examiners, and Dr. Khalid Rehman, Associate Professor and Director at IPH&SS, KMU, as the internal examiner.
Dr. Jawad’s public defense was held on 9th September 2025 at KMU, where he successfully defended his thesis and was unanimously recommended for the award of the PhD degree by both internal and external examiners.
Professor Dr. Zia Ul Haq, Vice Chancellor of KMU, along with faculty and colleagues, extended heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Mohammad Jawad on this outstanding achievement. They emphasized that his research will significantly contribute to improving adherence and management strategies for patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, especially in low-resource settings.
This accomplishment not only reflects Dr. Jawad’s dedication and hard work but also highlights KMU’s growing research capacity in public health and healthcare innovation.
