KMU Hospital Launches Three Day Free Medical Camp for Diabetes and Hypertension

A free medical camp for diabetes, hypertension, and other diseases was inaugurated at KMU Hospital. The camp was formally opened by Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, along with renowned cardiologist and former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah. Dean Clinical Sciences Prof. Dr. Fouzia Gul, KMU Hospital Director Dr. Shaista Khan, Medical Director Dr. Amjad Ali, Registrar Inamullah Wazir, as well as several other medical experts and officials were also present at the ceremony.

A press release issued by Media Section KMU stated that, the free medical camp will continue until October 3 at KMU Hospital, near PIC, Phase 5, Hayatabad, Peshawar. Patients are being provided with free medical consultations, diagnostic services, and necessary tests. The camp also includes detailed check-ups, awareness on diabetic foot care and wound prevention, and free eye examinations.

According to details on the first day alone, 422 patients of different ages and genders were examined. They received treatment and guidance for diabetes, hypertension, obesity, dental and eye issues, along with nutritional counseling. Free diagnostic tests including HbA1C, blood sugar, uric acid, LDL, ECG, and echocardiography were also conducted.

Prominent specialists including Prof. Dr. Hafizullah, Prof. Dr. Fouzia Gul, Prof. Dr. Wazir Muhammad, Prof. Dr. Abdul Jalil Khan, Prof. Dr. Sobia Sabir Ali, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, and others provided medical consultation and treatment services. Participants expressed satisfaction with the quality of diagnosis, treatment, and counseling provided, terming KMU’s initiative highly commendable.

On the occasion, KMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq said that KMU Hospital represents a new chapter in the province’s healthcare sector. “This hospital will not only provide high-quality treatment but also open new avenues for advanced research,” he stated. He further emphasized that transforming KMU Hospital into a model healthcare and research center for the region is their mission, for which all necessary resources will be utilized.

Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq added that diabetes and hypertension are among the fastest-growing diseases worldwide, including in Pakistan, and are rightly called “silent killers.” Timely diagnosis and treatment, he noted, can not only save lives but also protect patients from serious complications.
