Practical Session on: Resilience and Disaster Preparedness Be Ready and Stay Safe

In response to the instructions and calendar of activities issued by the Department of Higher Education, Khyber Medical University conducted an interactive awareness session on “Resilience & Disaster Preparedness-Be Ready and Stay Safe” on 28th January 2026, session in collaboration with Civil Defence Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peshawar.

The activity was organized under the guidance of the Chief organizer Prof Dr Zilli Huma (Director Academics & Admissions KMU), in coordination with the organizing team comprising Dr Habiba Rashid (AP-IBMS), Dr Nazish Abdul Qadir (AP-IPMR) and Dr Haji Bahadur (AP-IPS), with a focus on resilience and disaster preparedness, including hands-on training and practical drills for students and staff.

More than four hundred and twenty participants attended the activity including 387 students from undergraduate programs of DPT, Pharm-D, speech and language pathology, RT & ICT, Health technology, MLT, Cardiology, BS Emergency, Dental technology, Radiology, Audiology, Optometry, BS Anesthesia, BS Renal Dialysis, BS Occupational Therapy. Faculty members, administrative and laboratory staff also participated in this activity.

The session started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Mr. Umar Sayam (BS student). Dr Habiba Rashid welcomed the participants and trainers from Civil Defence KP. Mr. Abdun Nasir, Commandant Civil Defence Training School Peshawar, shed light on the importance of workplace safety and disaster preparedness considering recent incidents and tragedies. Mr. Waqar Ullah Khan, chief trainer, guided the participants in understanding the disasters, personal and family preparedness in such situations. To enhance workplace resilience, participants were systematically guided through a structured building evacuation drill, including identification and utilization of designated emergency assembly points. A practical demonstration on the operation and appropriate use of different types of fire extinguishers was conducted. Students were also given the opportunity to perform hands-on procedures under supervision. Concluding, the event Director Academics & Admissions Prof. Dr. Zilli Huma thanked Mr. Abdun Nasir and his team for their valuable contribution and presented them with shields.
