Games play pivotal role in development of a balance society: VC KMU

Highlighting the importance of physical activities and sports in student’s life, Vice Chancellor Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar Prof. Dr. Arshad Javed said that education and sports go side by side in a student’s life. Sports play a vital role in the overall development of a healthy mind and physical fitness of a student and keeps them away from adverse activities, he was talking as chief guest to the concluding and prize distribution ceremony of annual sports gala. Besides Registrar KMU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, players, members sports committee, event organizers, heads of different Institutes, Faculty and a large number of students were also present at the occasion.

Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid said that games plays important role in life for maintaining discipline, dedication and sports man spirit. The enthusiasm and descipline showed by the students in today’s ceremony revealed that no one can beat our youth by any mean. While terming sports very essential for better physical as well as mental fitness he added that sports and co curricular activities are part and parcel of academic institutions and they both go side by side for development of a balance and stable society. He said sport lead to better discipline and it promotes sports man spirit among the youth and from next year all the affiliated and constituent institutes will be encouraged to participate in the annual sports gala. He appreciated the performance and leadership role of the director sports Dr. Inayat Shah, his team and especially the winner teams and hoped that they will continue their achievements in the future as well.

It is worth mentioning that in the said gala KMU-Institute of Paramedical Sciences stood as champion of the tournament while obtaining 1st position, whereas NCS University System became 2nd and KMU-Institute of Physical Medicine & rehabilitation grabbed 3rd position. In the said tournament there were various male and female games included; Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Tug of war, Table Tennis, Carom Board where as female events included; Badminton, Table Tennis, Tug of War, Badminton, Dodge the ball, Spoon race and three Leg Race were organized during the week long events. In the end VC KMU along with Registrar distributed prizes and shields among the winner and runner up teams.
