GOVERNOR KP IQBAL ZAFAR JHAGRA INAUGURATES 5TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MEDICAL EDUCATION
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra hoped that the innovations and excellence in the teaching, learning, curriculum, and assessment strategies facilitated by Khyber Medical University (KMU) will be part of the change in health reforms process in the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, he was talking as chief guest to the inaugural ceremony of 5th three days International Conference on Medical Education organized by KMU-IHPE&R with the theme ‘Curriculum Innovations: Global & Local Trends’ at Hayatabad, Peshawar.
The Governor said, he pleased to know that KMU has already started faculty development program, with excellent facilitators from different parts of the country and abroad. He hoped that these faculty members will be the agents of change to bring curricular reforms in medical and allied health Sciences in the province to produce highly qualified health professionals to compete in the national as well as global market, and will be a great resource for the economic development of this province and country. The focus of the present government is on health and education therefore being a medical university KMU had a unique position in a sense of producing health professionals for this province in various health related fields. The government will provide full support to all the projects of KMU, and will facilitate it for quality research activities, he added.
The Governor said, he pleased to know that KMU has taken this initiative in providing an opportunity to medical educationists to learn about teaching and learning, communication skills, the use of information technology in teaching and learning and playing other roles such as a scholarly educator and provide this conference as a platform for dialogue on issues and challenges of standardizing medical education and adopting a comprehensive based curricula for all the affiliated and constituent health institutions.
Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said, “It gives me an immense inspiration when I look at the progress of KMU, and the way it is moving ahead with such a fast pace in introducing reforms in medical education and development. I am honoured to come here to this conference, where all of us have gathered to share our experiences of curricula reforms in health sciences. I am thankful to KMU for providing a platform where all of us can learn, re-learn, reflect, and improve upon our practices. I am very hopeful that if we keep on performing with same zeal and enthusiasm, then the day is not far, when KMU will be ranked among the leading universities of the world”.
Earlier while talking to the conference VC KMU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah highlighted the achievements made by KMU in the last ten years and has said that with 8 constituent and 35 affiliated institutes KMU is progressing in right direction and hopefully the day is not far when KMU will stand in the top ranking universities of the world. Prof. Dr. Gohar Wajid, Dr. Brekhna Jamil, Dr, Ahsan Sethi and Dr. Usman Mehboob also talked to the conference.
