KMU 3rd Convocation held Governor lauds KMU achiements

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that it is heartening to know that Khyber Medical University (KMU) even in its budding phase has grown rapidly to have eight constituent and 40 affiliated institutes, imparting quality education to undergraduate and postgraduate students of various disciplines of medical, nursing, paramedics, physiotherapy and medical education, he was talking to 3rd Convocation of KMU as chief guest. Sharam Khan Tarakai Minister of Health KP and Pro Chancellor of KMU, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah VC KMU, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Saleem Gandapur, Deans, Faculty, Parents and a large number of students were present at the occasion. 

Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said, convocation ceremony is one of the most memorable events in anybody's life. This comes at the end of a long journey of academic and social activities. This Convocation has a special significance as it is a day of milestones, and a day of celebration transforming the event into history as the University marks the graduating ceremony of its first set of alumni.

Governor emphasized on the graduated students that “We have demanded much of you, and you have proved yourselves equal to every challenge. I believe that in the years ahead you will make your university, your families, your communities and your country proud of you as doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, putting your share into the development of our beloved mother land”.

            He mentioned that  being the only public sector medical university in the province it has the huge responsibility of fulfilling the expectation of the government, policy makers, and patients to find solutions that will empower us to overcome the obstacles in the healthcare delivery system and capacity vacuum.

The Governor urged that today we are challenged with many health problems reflecting into poverty, increase in burden of disease and needless deaths. Medical Universities especially KMU is expected to play a vital role in the growth of knowledge, management of resources, eradication of poverty, improving health status, reducing burden of disease and harnessing economic development of the country. “The time has come to payback the debt you owe to your people, province, and country. Go ahead, and create a world that will be different, much better than yesterday and create a world where there is happiness and where health prevails” he added.

While paying rich tributes and congratulation to the degree holders and especially the gold medalists and their proud parents the Chancellor hoped that it is a time to look back to all that has brought us to this point, and to look ahead to the fulfilment of our ambitions. It is a time to recognize both individual excellence and the communal investments that enables us to flourish and lead our societies to create better lives for all in this rapidly changing world.

Earlier VC KMU presented detail report of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the University and shared that while celebrating its decade long achievements it is matter of pride for all of us that KMU is standing tall in the row of the higher education institutions with firm footing in a sense of human and financial resources. Shahram  Tarakai Minister for Health KP also spoke to the convocation.

It is worth mentioning that in the said convocation there were 115 degrees conferred upon graduated students of various disciplines including one PhD in Microbiology, 12 MPhil in Basic Sciences,13 MPH,2 MSc Epidemiology & Bio Statistics,13 PHPE,25 MBBS,2 MSPT,24 DPT,13 Post RN,10 BSN whereas 44 students  of various programs were awarded with gold medals.#
