Ninth Meeting of the KMU Syndicate held..
Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar approved four new courses in various disciplines of health education at different levels besides approving appointments of various officers against different vacant positions. These decisions were taken in the 9th meeting of KMU Syndicate held here at Institute of Basic Medical Science (IBMS) under the chairmanship of Vice Chancelloir Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah, while beside Registrar Dr. Fazal Mahmood and Director Academics Prof. Dr. Shad Mohammad, Justice (Rtd) Qazi Ihsan Ullah Quarshi, Prof. Dr. Zahoor A Swati nominee of HEC, Prof. Dr. Tariq Saeed Mufti, Mr. Khawaja Yawar Naeer, Prof. Dr. Jawad Ahmad, Profl Dr. Saleem Khattak, Prof. Dr. Abdul Waheed, Dr. Shafiq Ahmad Tariq, Mr. Muhammad Bin Afsar Jan, Dr. Brekhana Jamil, Dr. Jamil Ahmad, Additional Sectery Health, Additional Secretary Establishment, Additional Secretary Higher Education Deparmtnet and Dy. Secretary Fianance also attended the meeting.
According to details the Syndicate in its 9th meeting discussed a 20 points agenda along with 3 points supplementary agenda items. In order to meet the ever increasing demand for quality health care services to the community suffering from musculoskeletal and neuromuscular ailments lowers the burden of disease and its impact on economy, the Syndicate after thorough discussion had given approved of MS Physical Therapy program in two disciplines i.e Musculoskeletal and Neurological disorders.
To coup with the obstetrical and medical complications during pregnancy and child birth and to over come the chronic non communicable diseases,the Syndicate okayed two years MPH program in two sub specialties which include Matetamal & Child Health and Non Communicable Diseases. The house was told that these programs will equip the health care professionally with the skills to plan, manage, evaluate programs, conduct research and be able to educate community as well as act as an advocate for the cause. To enhance the capacity of the teaching staff and to promote research culture in the health profession institutions, Syndicate approved certificate courses in health education professions and health research.
Keeping in view the rising trend of padgiarison in higher education institutions and to avoid academic dishonesty the Syndicate recommended constitution of a plagiarism standing committee in the light of recommendation of HEC. The examination calendar of MBBS/BDS for the year 2012-13 was discussed in the meeting and the proposed examination calendar was anonymously approved.The new curriculum for B.Sc Nursing (4yrs) program and Baccalaurate of Science in Nursing education developed by HEC, Islamabad and Pakistan Nursing council Islamabad was also approved by the Syndicate. In the 9th meeting of the KMU Syndicate KGMC had given the affiliation status against M.Phil program in seven different subjects of basic medical sciences, where as affiliation of Frontier Homeopathic Medical College Hayatabad for admission in 50 seats at degree level with KMU was also approved by the Syndicate
The Syndicate after detailed deliberation approved affiliation of Pak International Medical College, Hayatabad Peshawar against increase in number of seats from 50 to 100 and Rehman College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Peshawar against DPT courses for 30 students per year. Approval was given to Bannu Medical college Bannu as affiliated institute of KMU against MBBS degree program for 100 seats, however the Syndicate directed the college authorities that vacant posts of faculty should be filled on priority bases for smooth functions of the college. In the meeting approval of affiliation of Sarhad Institue of Health Sciences, Peshawar for MPH Program against 25 seats, North West General Hospital & Research Centre for House Jobs as per recommendaitons of PMDC was also given.
Syndicate has approved / recommended appointments of Mr. Gul Azad Khan as new Treasurer, Mr. Mohammad Islam, Mr. Amjad Hussain,Mr. Mohammad Sohail (current charge bases) and Dr. Zeeshan Kibria as Dy. Director Admission, Dy. Director Academics, Dy. Direcotr IT and Dy. Director P&D respectivley.
Earlier while talking to the Syndicate VC KMU Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah said keeping in viewe the dire need for health care professionals having the desired skills to cater the needs of the poor community as well as health sector, KMU intends to provide the innovation platform to develop highly skilled human resource not only to meet the MOG’s but also to improve the health status of the community. While updating the Syndicate, he said KMU after introducing reforms in medical educaiton at MBBS/BDS level in curriculum and examination now we were focusing on Nursing, Physiotherpy and Allied Health Sciences for ensuring quality education and for overcoming the burden of diseases of the poor ailing humity.
