First International Public Health Conference Concludes
Health Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwan Dr. Hisham Inamullah Khan while praising KMU for imparting high-quality education and research in various disciplines has said “I am impressed by the highly qualified foreign trained faculty members in the field of public health”, he was talking to closing ceremony of first public health conference organized by KMU-Institute of Public Health. Besides other Vice Chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jawad Ahmad, Registrar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, Dean Public Health Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, Director IPH&SS Dr. Naseem Khan faculty members, students and members of Public Health Association as well as delegates from Nanjing Medical University, China and UK besides representatives of UN agencies and ICRC were also present at the occasion.
Dr. Hisham congratulated KMU in making the new department of family medicine within the faculty of public health. “This first of its kind diploma will empower the medical officers, mainly selected from the department of health staff working in BHU’s and RHC’s across the province,” he added. The minister asked the health experts to share with the government all the recommendations made in the 1st International Public Health conference regarding public health issues and improvement. He said that government would seriously consider those recommendations. He also shared the salient features of the recently approved first public health policy of the province.
The Health Minister said that primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare system would be improved. To improve governance in the health sector, powers would be devolved to the lowest level that would have far reaching effects for that purpose, regional health authorities were set up to strengthen health delivery system at the local level, he added. Dr. Hisham said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the first province to introduce health policy. He said that it was a great achievement. “Based on this policy, we will improve healthcare system at all levels in the province.
While talking to the ceremony VC KMU Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid, congratulated Dr. Zia ul Haq and his team for organizing a successful event in which Public Health experts not only participated but have made valuable presentations and updated the participants on the current public health issues. He assured that KMU being the sole public sector medical university will continue focus on achieving academic and research excellence in all health related fields. Dean public health Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq also spoke to the closing ceremony, where as in the end shields and souvenirs were also presented to the chief guest as well as foreign delegates.#
