KMU Institute of Nursing Sciences becomes the second largest nursing school in the country

KMU is a gift that just keeps giving...

In yet another first for the province, I am proud to declare that the varsity's nursing school has been given accreditation by the Pakistan Nursing Council for its Masters programme in Nursing.

The  Nursing Council in its meeting held yesterday, has approved the KMU Institute of Nursing Sciences for inducting 30 Masters programme students, a huge number on the first go. The institute, given the excellent shape it is in with regards to faculty and infrstructure, has also been allowed to induct 100 students each for the Post RN and the Bachelor of Nursing programmes, a whopping increase of more than 200%, as these programmes were allowed to induct 30 students each previously. This makes KMU Institute of Nursing  Sciences the second largest nursing school in the country, just shy of the Aga Khan University's nursing school, a very old and established institution.

The recognition of the Masters programme as well as the increase in the number of seats to cater to the demands of the health system, was a long standing issue. I  am glad and relieved that hot on the heels of getting the KMU Institute of Dental Sciences Kohat recognized by the PMDC, we have now been able to bring our nursing school to a standard that exceeds the expectations of the Nursing Council.

Keeping true to its mission of serving the KP province through excellence in health education and research, the KMU will be producing highly qualified nursing professionals and help in the strengthening of the healthcare delivery system of the province.

The university will now be looking towards the provincial health department to support the program through resource and expertise sharing, as this comes right on the back of an MOU between the KMU and the health department aimed at strengthening nursing education in the province.

This is a proud moment for me and my team and is a result of some long hours of hard work and a lot of dedication. KMU will always keep striving for sustained excellence in the future and bring a positive change on the healthcare delivery landscape of the province.
