Certificate distribution ceremony of training workshop on Infection Prevention & Control Training the Trainers Certificate Course (29th July 2021)

The Vice Chancellor, Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar has said that Infection Prevention and Control is the main pillar of preparedness and response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic control. One of the lessons learnt from this pandemic is the need for strengthening and systematically improving IPC systems and structures through implementing standard practices and procedures in Pakistan. There is a recognized need for capacity building of Health care workers on implementation of IPC measures to ensure patient safety and quality of care. He was talking as chief guest to a certificate distribution ceremony of a training workshop on “Infection Prevention & Control Training the Trainers Certificate Course” organized by the Institute of Public Health & Social Sciences in collaboration with World Health Organization. Besides other Dr. Babar Alam HOOWHO KP, Dr. Sarwat WHO, Dr. Saima Afaq Director IPH&SS, Dir Jalil Khan HOD Family Medicine KMU, Dr. Khalid Rehman Coordinator Mass Vaccination Centre KMU and Dr. Nauman Arif were also present at the occasion.

Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, emphasized on the importance of IPC implementation as one of the main indicators of quality care. He ensured that KMU will continue its role in arranging such courses for the health care workers of KP, including the newly merged tribal districts.

It is worth mentioning that the course for IPC Nurses is a one-month certified course accredited by PNC & KMU and the aim of this course is to develop Master Trainers who can then train staff not only in their respective facilities but also support IPC provincial trainings. These nurses will also be able to work as dedicated IPC nurses at their facilities.

The first 2 weeks of the course included face to face interactive sessions at KMU, followed by a one week of supervised practical IPC sessions at the WHO IPC demonstration site and other tertiary hospitals of KP. In the last week the participants completed practical sessions at their respective healthcare facility which included on job training and evaluation of IPC measures.
