Two Days Symposium on “Effects of Nutritional Supplements on Pre-eclamptic Women, Tehsil Head Quarter Hospital, Matta, Swat
Pre-eclampsia is a common complication of pregnancy. Its prevalence is high in developing
countries like Pakistan especially in remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Mortality rate from
pre-eclampsia is 16% in Pakistan which is quite high from other developing countries. The
reason behind this high mortality rate is unawareness regarding the disease, illiteracy, low
socio-economic conditions and lack of ante-natal check-up in the KPK.
The Biochemistry Department of IBMS, KMU in collaboration of ORIC conducted two days
symposium in Matta, Swat. The aim of this two days symposium was to produce awareness
about the disease and to present some recent research data collected in KPK, regarding pre-
eclampsia. Professor Dr Rubina Nazli and Assistant Professsor Dr Sadia Fatima delivered the
lectures to the clinicians and gynecologists of Tehsil Headquarter Matta. Fifty participants,
actively participated in the event and looking forward for further activities.
The second part of the symposium was to produce awareness and prevention of PIH in patients.
After the symposium PhD and M Mphil students (Dr Nabila Sher and Dr Kausar Tayyab) also
attended the antenatal clinics where they identified patients of preeclampsia.
