Qualification and experience:
Dr Gulab Fatima Rani graduated from Gomal Medical College, Dera Ismail Khan in 2012
followed by one year house job at Hayatabad Medical complex, Peshawar. She completed her
MPhil hematology with gold medal from Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Khyber Medical
University in 2017. She has worked in pathology, diagnostic haematology and clinical
haematology from 2014-2017 at NorthWest General Hospital and Research Centre, Peshawar.
Later, she moved to United Kingdom for her PhD at the University of York, York, funded by
Khyber Medical University/Higher Education Commission, Pakistan. Dr Gulab Fatima completed
her PhD in biology (Immunohaematology) and returned back to Pakistan in 2021 and joined
Khyber Medical University as Assistant Professor Haematology. Currently, she is working as
Assistant Professor of Haematology at Institute of Pathology and Diagnostic Medicine, Khyber
Medical University. Dr Gulab Fatima also works in clinical haematology at Peshawar General
Hospital, Peshawar.
Research Interests:
Dr Gulab Fatima’s research interests include exploring the immune regulatory mechanisms in
infections, haematology disorders and cancers. She has previously worked on aplastic anemia,
thalassemia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia and infections such as leishmaniasis and malaria.
Expertise and courses:
Dr Gulab Fatima is a HEC approved PhD supervisor and currently supervising both MPhil and
PhD Haematology students. Apart from her clinical expertise, she is fully trained in research and
diagnostic laboratory skills including reporting of blood and bone marrow smears, PCR, flow
cytometry, Immunofluorescence.
She also teaches applied biostatistics, disorders of red blood cells, disorders of white blood
cells, transfusion medicine and clinical laboratory skills to postgraduate haematology students.
