In celebration of World Anatomy Day 2023, the Department of Anatomy at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS), Khyber Medical University (KMU), organized the 17th Bi-annual Anatomy Research Day on October 19, 2023. This event has been a tradition for the Anatomy Department, held bi-annually since 2015, with the primary objective of assessing the progress of Anatomy M.Phil and PhD scholars. Additionally, the event serves as an opportunity to introduce new students to the principles of project design and research conduction in the field of anatomy.

The 17th Bi-annual Anatomy Research Day commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Mr. Muhammad Shafiq, M.Phil MBG scholar, setting a spiritual and respectful tone for the event. Dr. Habiba Rashid, Assistant Professor in the Anatomy Department at IBMS, expertly moderated the proceedings. Dr. Najma Baseer, Associate Professor of Anatomy at IBMS, delivered the welcome speech. She highlighted the essential role of anatomical research in contributing to advancements in the medical field.


Throughout the event, M.Phil and PhD anatomy research scholars presented their ongoing research and provided updates on their projects. M.Phil scholars in their second semester showcased concept map posters outlining their research synopsis, demonstrating the high caliber of research in the Anatomy Department.

The Honorable Vice-chancellor of KMU, Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq and Professor Dr. Rubina Nazli, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of KMU, commended the dedication and hard work of the students. They encouraged the budding anatomists to strive for excellence in anatomical research, recognizing its critical role in the healthcare industry. Furthermore, they expressed their gratitude and admiration for the organizing team, including Dr. Zilli Huma, Associate Professor and Head of the Anatomy Department, Dr. Najma Baseer, Dr. Najeeb Ullah, Dr. Habiba Rashid, and Dr. Shabnam Wazir for the successful execution of the 17th Anatomy Research Day.

The event concluded with the recognition for outstanding contributions, with certificates awarded for the best oral presentations going to Dr. Amber Saba and Dr. Umar Farooq. The certificate for the best concept map presentation was received by Dr. Nadia Khan.

The 17th Bi-annual Anatomy Research Day not only showcased the dedication and hard work of the students but also underscored the importance of anatomical research in shaping the future of healthcare. It is a testament to the commitment of KMU and the Anatomy Department at IBMS to nurturing and advancing research in the field of anatomy.
