The Vice Chancellor, of Khyber Medical University, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq, inaugurated the Dental Material Characterization Laboratory (DMCL) at the main campus of KMU, Peshawar. He was welcomed by the Dean KMU-IBMS, Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli, Director KMU-IBMS, Associate Prof. Dr. Inayat Shah, Associate Prof. Dr. Nawshad Muhammad, Associate Prof. Dr. Saad Liaqat, Lecturer Dr. Muhammad Amer Khan, and other relevant officials. Later on, the Vice Chancellor visited each section of the Laboratory and took a keen interest in the state-of-the-art equipment and prototypes. The prototypes included Impression Materials, Whitening Toothpaste, Bleaching Agents, Bone substitutes, and Dental Stones, etc.
Subsequently, he enlightened the faculty members with his visionary and futuristic approach towards flourishing the linkages of the laboratory with industry as well as with national and international markets. Furthermore, he stated that the prototypes should be showcased on a wider scale nationally and internationally, which will fetch both academic as well as economic returns for the university. The lab will soon become useful for not only the students of this university but will also facilitate the students of other universities, and local industries to perform research in various fields of dentistry and material characterization.
The Vice Chancellor was briefed about modern types of equipment like Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Universal Testing Machine (UTM), Hardness Testing Machine, Ball Milling Machine, Ultrasonicators,-86 Freezer, Box furnaces and other laboratory equipment's. The VC appreciated the efforts of the entire staff in operating the equipment and also applauded the cleanliness of the laboratory. He assured his full support and cooperation in further improving the laboratory so as to elevate it to the international level. It will be helpful to develop international linkages for bringing in modern technology for the betterment of the university in particular and the country in general. In the end VC Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq appreciated the faculty of Dental Materials for their patents and publications, which will benefit the university in achieving higher ranks
