Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, and the Palestine Medical Academy (PalMed Academy), Bolton, United Kingdom, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering scientific and technical cooperation in various educational and research fields of health at KMU for Palestinian students.

Under the agreement, KMU will provide academic facilities to healthcare professionals from Palestine, including undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, paramedics, nurses, and other allied health professionals. The MoU was signed by KMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq on behalf of the university, and by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Laubani on behalf of PalMed Academy. The signing ceremony was also attended by, among others, the Provincial Minister for Higher Education, Meena Khan Afridi.

It was agreed that both institutions would work together to exchange knowledge, skills, and academic expertise in areas of mutual interest. The partnership will also include joint healthcare training programs, conferences, seminars, symposiums, workshops, and invited lectures on national and international health issues. Furthermore, the agreement covers joint research projects and the supervision of research students in selected fields.

Both parties affirmed that all collaborative activities will be carried out in accordance with national and international ethical standards and regulatory frameworks. The MoU will remain valid for five years from the effective date, unless terminated earlier by either party with six months’ written notice.

Meanwhile, addressing the online signing ceremony as chief guest, Provincial Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi described the partnership as a significant step toward enhancing global cooperation in healthcare education, training, and research. He said it would contribute to the advancement of medical science and the improvement of healthcare delivery systems.

He stated, “Our hearts beat with the people of Palestine, especially the oppressed and helpless Muslims of Gaza. In this time of hardship, supporting the people of Gaza in every possible way is both a humanitarian duty and a requirement of our faith.”

Meena Khan Afridi appreciated KMU’s commitment and practical measures to provide Palestinian students with opportunities for education and research in various fields of health. He assured that the provincial government would extend full cooperation in this regard. He further stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the provincial government stands shoulder to shoulder with its Palestinian brothers and sisters. He emphasized that the government not only strongly condemns the Israeli oppression and brutality in Gaza in the strongest terms but is also determined to provide all possible facilities to Palestinian students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
