A memorandum of understanding for health care education and training was signed, between Khyber Medical University (KMU) Department of family medicine Peshawar, MTI Hayatabad medical complex and Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC), Peshawar. On behalf of KMU, VC Prof Dr. Zia ul Haq, Dr. Abdul Jalil Khan Head Department of Family Medicine while on behalf of HMC Prof. Dr. Shehzad Akbar Medical Director and on behalf of KGMC Prof Dr.Zahid Aman signed memorandums of understanding.

The MoU states that KMU is committed to introducing quality medical education and a multidisciplinary holistic health care approach.  Dr. Kashif, Dr. Wajid Ali, Dr. Nazir, Dr. Shamshad, and Dr. Ambreen of HMC and senior faculty members were also present in the prestigious MoU ceremony of MoU.

Speaking on the occasion, VC KMU Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq said that we are delighted to share an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to enhance healthcare education and delivery. This partnership is a significant step forward in our mission to provide structured clinical training in various specialties at the Hayatabad Medical Complex for the Family Medicine Program and KMU. We sincerely thank HMC for joining hands with KMU in our collective efforts to strengthen the healthcare system. He said that it is very important to recognize the important role of primary care.

He said that the world's most successful health care models depend on a strong foundation of primary care. It is crystal clear that  60 percent of primary and secondary care cases are managed by physicians. HMC will offer clinical rotations in various specialties (Medicine and Surgery Allied, Emergency Room/Casualty, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Obs and Gynecology) as part of Diploma in Family Medicine. This initiative is an important step to address the problem of overburdened tertiary care, which stems from the lack of an organized primary care system and an effective referral mechanism.

Meanwhile the KMU Department of Family Medicine welcomes all to join us in this collaborative endeavor to strengthen our healthcare structure. Together, we can make a lasting impact on healthcare in our region, enriching the lives of countless individuals. Both the parties have welcomed the agreement and expressed the expectation that it will benefit both institutions and overall it will open new avenues for better medical education and medical facilities in the province.
