KMU-IBMS arranges welcome party for MPhil and PhD Scholars

The Director of Khyber Medical University-Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (KMU-IBMS) Dr. Inayat Shah has said that the Ph.D and M.Phil scholars of the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences can play a key role in preventing the growing diseases in society. He expressed these views while addressing the welcome party organized in honor of the newly admitted students of M.Phil and Ph.D in basic medical sciences. Former dean and Pro vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Jawad Ahmed, Director IPS Dr. Sami Siraj, Director IPDM Dr. Yasir Yousafzai, dean faculty of Basic Medical Sciences Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli, Director QEC Dr. Asia Bukhari, faculty and students were also present at the occasion.
Addressing the newly admitted students, Dr. Inayat Shah said that you have chosen a new and challenging profession. Due to hard work, you can not only make the name of yourself, your parents and the nation bright, but through this noble profession, you can also play a leadership role in serving suffering humanity. He advised the students and said that purposefulness and modesty should not be neglected; their performance and attitude should be exemplary for others.
He said that KMU has been focusing on M.Phil and Ph.D programs among other fields and it is commendable that KMU has recently been awarded by CPSP for imparting FCPS training in four subject i.e Community Medicine, Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Physiology which is not only a sign of confidence but also a great honor for KMU.
Dr. Inayat Shah said that currently 163 Ph.D and 487 M.Phil scholars are studying in IBMS and a large number of M.Phil and Ph.D scholars are graduating from here every year, while in the future, M.Phil and PhD programs in Human Nutrition, Bioinformatics, and Oral Biochemistry will also be started soon.
While, speaking at the ceremony, former dean and Pro-vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Jawad Ahmed, Dr. Yasir Yousafzai, Prof. Dr. Rubia Nazli, Dr. Zille Huma, Dr. Sami Siraj, and Dr. Asia Bukhari said that the importance of M.Phil and Ph.D in various disciplines of basic medical sciences is increasing with time.
The speakers emphasized on research, ethics, and human service in medical education. They said that our health system revolves around treatment, whereas our scholars should also focus on the causes and prevention of diseases. Along with dealing with Covid 19, we should also focus on increasing diseases like cancer, diabetes and blood pressure in this context, M.Phil and Ph.D scholars can play a fundamental role.
