KMU to introduce integrated dental curriculum

Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar has decided to introduce a four-year integrated dental curriculum from the academic year 2023. This modern modular system will be implemented in all public and private dental colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the next academic year. This decision was taken in a high-level meeting held at KMU Peshawar, in which the principals of all the public and private dental colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and experts from various disciplines participated. 


The meeting was chaired jointly by Adviser to Chief Minister for Health Prof. Dr. Riaz Anwar and vice-chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq. On this occasion, Director IHPE&R Dr. Brekhna Jameel gave a detailed presentation about the plan for a four-year integrated dental curriculum in which various aspects of the modular curriculum were discussed.


Addressing the meeting, Prof. Dr. Riaz Anwar appreciated the initiative, stressing the need for reforms in the dental curriculum to achieve global commitment and increase the quality of dental education. He said that after the successful experience of the modular system in MBBS, now with the implementation of this modern curriculum in dental education, where dental education will get an opportunity to develop on modern lines, it will also improve the treatment of dentistry.


Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq while addressing the meeting said that the implementation of this modern curriculum will be very beneficial for the students. He said that this will not only enrich the learning experience but also equip the students with the required skills and knowledge to excel in their respective fields. He said that the modular system would open new avenues for faculty development and institutional collaboration while also helping to promote a more cohesive academic ecosystem. The integrated dental curriculum will commence in the academic year 2023 and will be implemented at all the public and private dental colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he added.
