Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar, in collaboration with APPNA Institute of Public Health and ICRC, launched a 6 CME credit hours online training on De-escalating and managing violence in healthcare settings under the Healthcare in Danger project. In this regard, a high-level meeting was held in the committee room of the university under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq. The general secretary of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Fahimullah Mehsud, spokesperson of YDA Dr. Faisal Barakzai, Chairman LRH Dr. Mamoon, Chairman KTH Dr. Mujahid, Chairman HMC Dr. Danish Yousafzai, Director KMU-INS Dr. Sabiha Khanum, Director IPMR Dr. Irfan Ullah and other concerned officials also attended the meeting.
Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq said that this course has been formed as a result of several months of continuous hard work with the aim of creating awareness among healthcare workers including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other related staff to provide protection during duty hours. He said that this is a unique course of its kind that will be provided online without any fee. He said that all the stakeholders serving in the health sector can benefit from this course for which there is no grade or time limit; aspirants can apply for this course through a three-step online application.
Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq said that the course consists of 6 hours duration, on completion of which not only 6 credit hours CME facility been given, but the course participant will also be able to generate and print their own certificate. He said that this course has been designed keeping in mind the violence-related issues faced by health care workers, as a result of which health care workers will not only be able to protect their rights and lives, but it will also enable them for legal action against violence.
He said that this course will create a sense of security in the medical staff and they will be able to perform their duties in a more confident and safe environment. He said that young doctors can play a key role in spreading this course on a large scale. He said that he will soon hold a meeting with the Advisor to the Chief Minister for Health Prof. Dr. Riaz Anwar and the Secretary of Health and DG of Health services regarding this course in which the management of all the concerned hospitals of the province will be persuaded to make this course mandatory, while all the resources will also be utilized for mass publicity of this course.
