Remembering our patrons is a sign of living nations: VC KMU

The main academic block of Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar was named after the first vice-chancellor of the university Prof. Dr. Muhammad Daud Khan, while the multi-purpose hall was named after the second vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafeezullah. In this regard, a simple but dignified ceremony was held in which Prof. Dr. Muhammad Daud Khan and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafeezullah were the chief guests, while on this occasion vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, Registrar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, heads from various institutes, faculty and administrative officers were also present.

It is worth mentioning that Prof. Dr. Muhammad Daud Khan is one of the prominent ophthalmologists of the country and he was the first vice chancellor of KMU, as well as remained head of the two main tertiary care hospitals LRH and HMC Peshawar. He has also served as dean of PGMI. The establishment of the Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO) and Khyber Eye Foundation was also his achievement. Even today, he is playing a practical and active role in completing many projects related to eye diseases in the province.

Similarly, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafeez Ullah is also one of the leading cardiologists in the country. As the second vice-chancellor, apart from the completion of the new building of KMU, he has also established IBMS, INS, IPMS, and IHPE&R. He has also had the honor of founding institutions like KIMS and KIDS Kohat. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafeez Ullah has also been the dean of PGMI besides being the Chief Executive of LRH, while he has also played a key role from its conception to implementation of Peshawar Institute of Cardiology Peshawar.

Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq has paid rich tribute to the services of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Daud Khan and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafeez Ullah as vice-chancellors of KMU and said that today KMU’s tall standing amongst the medical universities across the country is because of these two great personalities who dedicated the institution day and night. He said that remembering our patrons is a sign of living nations and under this thought and feeling, we have decided to name the two buildings of the university after the names of these two pioneers and distinguished personalities in their fields.

Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq said that the services of great people are usually remembered after their death, although there is a need to pay tribute to their achievements during their lifetime, so in this spirit, we have dedicated two blocks of the university with the names of these two great personalities of the medical profession. In the end, he congratulated Prof. Dr. Muhammad Daud Khan and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafeez Ullah and also expressed good wishes for their good health and long life.
