Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, organized an orientation and training session in connection with the recently introduced "Fahm-e-Qur’an" course, approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad, for undergraduate students. The primary objective of the session was to brief faculty members on the course’s aims, instructional methodology, and its national significance.
The keynote address was delivered by Mufti Siddiq Ahmad Roghani, Head of Academia Facilitation at the Character Education Foundation. He elaborated on the instructional approach and academic requirements of the course, emphasizing that the Holy Qur’an teaches supreme moral values such as justice, honesty, tolerance, modesty, trust, and responsibility. He stated that understanding these values will bring about positive ethical transformation in youth, fostering social harmony and tolerance.
Mufti Roghani further remarked that the Qur’an course is not merely a religious subject but a comprehensive medium for intellectual, moral, and cultural training. He commended HEC's initiative as a timely and commendable step towards aligning the national education system with Islamic values, nurturing intellectual maturity in youth, and establishing a balanced, peaceful, and morally upright society. He emphasized that understanding the Qur’an supports individual reform and harmonizes personal character with the Islamic and constitutional framework of the state, thereby strengthening national unity and cohesion.
In her opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean of Basic Medical Sciences at KMU, stated that Pakistan is an Islamic state and the Holy Qur’an is the final divine revelation and a complete code of life for Muslims. Understanding the Qur’an not only imparts religious consciousness to students but also guides them in shaping their character and navigating various aspects of life. She added that the Qur’an’s balanced and moderate approach helps protect youth from misinterpretation of religion and prevents tendencies toward extremism, sectarianism, and intolerance. She highlighted that Qur’anic teachings provide inner peace, patience, gratitude, and reliance on Allah—values greatly needed in today’s high-pressure academic environment.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Dr. Zill-e-Huma, Director Academics at KMU, reiterated that HEC’s approval of the Qur’an course for undergraduates is a milestone for the intellectual, moral, and spiritual development of the younger generation.
